A Visionary Leader, Advocate, and Community Champion
Fabián Basabe is a devoted family man, entrepreneur, environmental advocate, and passionate supporter of the arts.
Born in New York City to an American mother and Ecuadorian father, Basabe was immersed in a myriad of cultures from an early age. He moved to Quito, Ecuador at age six and attended S.E.K. Elementary School, embracing Latin American traditions before relocating to Miami Beach in 1987.
In Miami Beach, Basabe witnessed firsthand the city’s transformation into a global destination as his family restored the historic Boulevard and Breakwater Hotels on Ocean Drive. His early experiences working in the family businesses gave him a deep appreciation for Miami Beach’s diversity and growth.
After graduating from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, Basabe pursued International Relations at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where his interest in television media and writing grew. Following college, he was a correspondent on E! Entertainment’s “Young, Rich and Famous” and “Filthy Rich Cattle Drive”, TLC’s “Simple Life to Social Life”, and even had a guest appearance on Oprah.
In 2007, Basabe and his wife, Martina Borgomanero, made Miami Beach their permanent home, raising their son Brando and deepening their commitment to the community.
Basabe’s philanthropic efforts have supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Operation Smile, Spirituality for Kids, and the IBLA Foundation. He has also written for LA Confidential, Paper Magazine and Gotham, among others.
In 2022, Basabe was elected to the Florida State House of Representatives for District 106—a district long considered one of the state’s most challenging.
Through his unwavering dedication, he has become a champion for the people, building bipartisan coalitions, restoring record funding to his district and earning the respect of many leaders across the aisle.
Basabe’s legislative priorities focus on standing firm for educators, law enforcement, and first responders while carrying the struggles of the most vulnerable in his heart. A true friend to the environment, he continues to advocate for environmental preservation and sustainable growth.
Reelected for a second term in 2024 with broad support, Basabe exemplifies integrity, honesty, and character in public service, while his leadership reflects a tireless fight for the values that unite communities and a commitment to improving the quality of life for all Floridians.
Fabián Basabe’s journey—from entrepreneur and cultural advocate to respected Legislator—demonstrates his unyielding passion for serving the people of District 106 and beyond.
